i am looking for an apartment in the cincinnati area. are there any good websites of apartment listings besides rent.com and apartments.com

Best thing to do is have somebody from that area grab one of those big "apartment guide" books from a gas station or grocery store and mail it to you.

Those actually are the best source, rent.com was sort of lame.

You don't actually need someone to send the book, they're online at www.apartmentguide.com 🙂

I signed up for rent.com with my junk email account. They will spam the crap out of you. It wasn't much help.

The places that pay to advertise there will also be in the free publications that people are talking about, but being able to look at the floor plan is nice.

I found most of the places I looked at just by driving around places near my work and near other apartment complexes that advertised in the publications and online. It really comes down to walking into a place, taking a look, and see what it really costs.

This apartment ratings Web site might also be helpful, but keep in mind that most people go there to complain. It also appears that some apartments are adding their own comments... but they're fairly obvious about it.
