Where to find 2.5" IDE hard drives

I have an older Dell Inspiron laptop and I would like to get another year or so out of it. The hard drive is the original 30GB 4200rpm IDE drive. I would like to replace it with a 40-80GB 5400rpm IDE drive, but I'm finding it difficult to find a new one. Any suggestions?

I've seen some refurbished drives, but I'm leery of them as most have manufacture dates in the 2002-2007 range.

Western Digital still makes 2.5" PATA hard drives. They might be difficult to get hold depending on where you live, though.

You should look for WD AAJB drives. Available in 80, 160, 250 and 320GB.

Darn! I gave away 5 of them a couple of months ago. Thank you Insert_Nickname for correctly ID'ing the 2.5 drive desired. AKAIK, all 2.5-in drives are IDE. (Means they have Internal Drive Electronics, i.e., a circuit board.

There are lots of places to pick one up:

- Frys Electronics Carries them
- Craigs List
- Local Computer Repair Stores (always have used ones )

Remember that you can also pull one from an old external USB/FW enclosure which are readily seen forsale on Craigs List
