Where to connect temperature diodes on MB?

Hi all,

I just purchased an Enermax multi-function panel for a 5 1/4" drive bay that monitors all kinds of stuff and also allows me to plug in USB, firewire, SATA and all kinds of removable media (CF, SD, etc.) One of the things it can monitor are temperatures (I'm uessing mainly for CPU and internal case temp). It has two (I think they're called) diodes that need to be hooked to someplace on the board to monitor these devices but I have no idea as to where I supposed to put them. I mean, for the CPU, the only placemI can think of would be between the heatsink and the processor, but that can't be right (is it?) For the internal case temp I would think anywhere in the case but would one place be better than another? Any ideas/suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Depends on what area you want to monitor for heat. Usually people check the areas near the CPU and the video card. Seeing as how my P160 comes with two heat probes, I have one right on the video card. This gives me a good idea how hot it is there. I also have one right by the CPU heatsink.

You want to get one between the heatsink and cpu as close to the die as possible. So just slip it in there and wiggle it back and forth until it is all up close to it. The next one is your choice but what the hey might as well just hang it somewhere out of direct air flow to get the system temp.
