where to connect sata drives?

if a mobo has 2 chips that control sata like the dfi sli mobos, is it better to put one hard drive on one of the chip and one hard drive on the other? or does it not matter?

oh and what about ide's. is it better to connect an ide hard drive to it's own cable and a cd rom to another cable?
