On ATI's website it lists CompUSA and BestBuy to purchase this card from. On both respective sites, they don't list this new product. Will the card now be only available online or are the retail stores going to carry them as well? Thanks

For the extra 100 dollars, I would wait for X800XT platinum.
But the X800Pro is coming in a few days, so not today anyway.

As for the extra hundred dollars Ive never been into buying the most expensive card since there has always been a way to get darn close to the higher end card with overclocking, bios flashing or something.
This time it sounds like the pipelines are truely locked out but as was stated in a review "thats what ATI is saying anyways" theres always 16 pipe chips that dont make the cut for the high end and find there way on the mid level cards, leaving room for alittle extra cooling and some hardmods to get 95% of the highend cards performance.

Its already been stated in many reviews that the Pipelines will not be able to be opened, through any means that won't dismantle your warranty anyway.
I would also defiantely get the XT, because even though there are diminshing returns as in all things, a 4 pipe increase from a total of 16 is still a huge improvement. You never know, it could be far more future proof than the X800 Pro, simply because of the extra pipelines.

And the reason why I would get the XT also has to do with pricing. THink about the Radeon 9800 Pro and the XT. THe Pro is nearly 1/2 the price of the XT. But in this case, the Pro is 4/5 the price! Basically, that just means you probably get the same FPS per dollar as you would get with either XT or Pro (while currently, the Radeon 9800 PRo offers much more Frames per dollar). THe kicker is that the XT may have more lasting value with its extra pipes. You never know :/

Look at the 9800 Pro, many of the R360 9800 XT chips worked there way on those boards.
All it took was a bios flash and the chip ran and booted as a XT minus the 128mb extra memory.
If they're trying to pump these cards out fast I?m sure there?s going to be a few 16 pipe chips that don?t meet spec and they might just throw them in a pile labeled 12 pipeline and bios clocking them down to the lesser specs MHz and disable 4 of the pipelines.

Well, I was just getting a little worried when I started hearing about some reviews saying it wouldn't be possible
however, I'm pretty sure that all x800 models will have the physical 16 pipes, if not some disabled
and I'm pretty hopeful that the modding community will find a way
if not, some people may be hard pressed to buy these new cards
I know I definitely can't afford a $400+ card right now...my range is typically up to $200
if it's not possible, I may have to get a powercolor 9800se, mod it, and wait out this year as best as I can :\

Im still riding the 9800 stuff for awhile also.
NewEgg has a good deal on there 9800 Pros for $209 and they are all coming out of there with the R360 chip and good Samsung memory.
Alittle bios flash, clocking and $15 worth of better cooling and its a $300 card (for the time being).
I had alot of responce on one I sold that way and just ordered another after selling the first.

The only thing is tho, that they usually get better yields later in the game. Therefore a few months from now, u might have better luck getting the xt chip in the pro card

Ya they are basically the same just better quality components on the XT board. R360 was just a revision but still if you had to put your money on which core would hit the higher clock you gamble on the R360.
Well, I've called the local BestBuy stores and the CompUSA store here in Colorado Springs and I got answeres that ranged from, "uhhh.." to "eh?" So I'm not too sure I'll see this card before the end of the week. DOH!

2 - 6800 GT 16 Pipes best card for $400 <- single slot design 1 power
3 - 6800 Pro 12 pipes best card for $300 <- single slot design 1 power
although Geforce 6800 ultra Extreme may be faster then the X800XT so Nvidia may still have the 3 fields won !
