Anyone know where I can buy (cheaply) the s/pdif motherboard header to 2pin connector on geforce 9800gt? It's necessary to output audio over hdmi through a dvi-hdmi adapter but was not included the card I just bought.

It's this thing, but not at this ridiculous price.
Ebay item for $15!

It's just two wires! If it's more than a couple of dollars, i'll just make them myself from boxes of computer scrap parts! I've checked newegg, monoprice, and meritline, but either they don't have it, or I am searching the wrong key words.

Thanks.

It is indeed just two wires, so if you have some appropriate spare wire and some gumption, you can make your own. Most people rolling their own tend to favor those old CDROM audio cables.

IIRC the motherboard pins used are SPDIF-out and ground. As long as you don't hook it up to the 5v output, you should be safe. I don't know what would happen if you accidentally hook up to the 5v (it is used to power optical outputs) but potentially you can damage your card and/or your motherboard. The SPDIF-out and ground are pretty safe. If you hook those up wrong, you just won't get sound. Nothing will be damaged (again, unless you accidentally tap 5v).

I came here to ask the exact same thing. $9 shipped is about the cheapest I can find. My motherboard came with one, but it's long since been lost since I had no need for it at the time.
