gonna move in my first apartment and given the dough by the 'rents:D

I'm leaning towards a futon for space saving...i'm wondering where i should buy..(looking for online companies that can deliver) Walmart is pretty cheap, but the quality could be too.

Ikea, if you have one in driving distance. the quality isn't superb, but it's a lot better than Walmart and the prices are great too. plus, a lot of it is designed towards saving space.

they don't ship most items, though... you'd have to drive to one and either take it home with you then, or pay for the store to ship it to your apartment ($$).

check out the "as is" section.. i you see something in good condition there, call up the guy who works back there and haggle the price down and he'll give it to you for cheaper

To save money on the futon just get an old matress and throw it directly on the ground. The rest.... I recommend the highest quality walmart (oxymoron?) brands available. Spend whatever you have leftover on a banquet at Taco Bell.

Buy everything with the possible exception of the mattress from the thrifty nickel or classifieds in your local paper. I got a nice desk for $20 that way.

yea, i bought my furniture new, and i paid under 500 by using ikea and office depot. It's well within reason to do so.

Futon's are actually quite pricey, if you're concerned about space, get the loft bed from ikea. This of course will knock out about 250 from your budget (150 for the frame, 100 for the mattress). Another 100 on any desk. Depending on the shelves you need office depot has two shelve bookshelves for 14 bucks that hold a decent amount of books, i have 3 of them (since they were only ten bucks when i bought them) and use them everywhere. Also, my chair cost me 50 bucks as it was on sale.

if you're near a campus, definatley check that out as students are always looking for furniture/looking to sell furniture. Most of the time they got it for cheap, so they'll part with it for cheap.

the nice thing about Ikea is that, since you put it together yourself, you can easily take it apart. it makes moving a lot easier.

Salvation Army and Goodwill. The Salvation Army stores atleast around here have some pretty nice stuff. I picked up a really nice couch and chair in perfect condition for $150.

My opinion, hit up the calsifies for bargains, or go to your local college and puruse the bullitan boards, especially in a couple of weeks when the semester ends. Just don't skim on the bed . . . a good bed is worth its weight in gold.
