I just picked up an Alix.2C3 embedded board for a monowall/pfSense router build. I also grabbed an enclosure from Netgate to house it - http://tinyurl.com/6kcwmm

Now that I have it done, my network area is looking way too messy as I have a Motorola cable modem, the ALIX box, an 8-port switch, Vonage box, and a separate AP box. After looking at the ALIX, I am curious if anyone knows of a vendor who either sells or could fabricate a simialar enclosure that could house the ALIX board, the cable modem board, and possibly the switch board.

I have googled, but I am not sure what I am looking for specifically - anyone have an idea. Right now, I would even settle for a custom enclosure for the cable modem so that I could stack it easier.

Thanks in advance!

Easily fixed...

Or get a new wife!

What do you mean by enclosure? You want a single case that you can rip the guts out of all your devices and consolidate them into a single box? Or just some kind of shelf?

Bingo. I am looking for a small case where I can mount the ALIX motherboard, the motherboard from the cable modem, and possibly the motherboard from the switch all within the same case.

I do not know of any company that makes that kind of product. Its either a DIY or contacting some kind of custom fabricator and Id imagine quite a lot of $$$.

Your wife cares about a ghetto solution IN a closet?

To an extent. The office doubles as a guest room, and we have them often, so part of the closet is designated for guest use. Thus, she would rather they not see a tangle of stuff when they open the door....

I'd say put it in the ghetto rack then put a small table\box over it with a table cloth covering it. (leave some gap for air flow obviously)

Yeah anything like that will be pricey. You might be able to pick up something like that at a salvage yard\ebay. Basically buy a rack mount piece of equipment that is obsolete\dead and gut it yourself. Though its unlikely that your bits will fit nicely and will need quite a bit of tinkering\retooling.
