Try a sheet metal shop, they probably have it in stock and can even cut it cleanly to the size specified. Beats tin snips with ragged edges.

And forget melting pennies, they are most zinc now. And zinc fumes are a real health hazard.

you aren't being remotely specific about what you're going to use the copper for, and you don't need to censure yourself. this forum isn't going to cover "shit" and "fuck" with asterisks and it makes you look like a kid when you try to express it with incorrect symbols, yet you go out of your way to apostrophize colloquialisms like talkin' and puttin'. it's fine, we get the image. you're some rural guy clacking away at a keyboard. spend more time and effort describing your problem and less time on stereotypical linguistics, and then I will spend more time and effort solving your problem and less time categorizing you.

Good luck melting pennies, 1000c is darn hot and dangerous.

You can always buy some 5/8" copper tubing, cut lengthwise and flatten it out. This will yield 1/8 x 1 1/2" by whatever strips.

besides, pennies haven't been pure copper for years, they're copper plated zinc now.

look online for copper, you should be able to find bar stock easy enough.

Anything before 1979 is copper, there is plenty in circulation. I don't condone their destruction though, there is enough of better sources of copper.

in San Diego there's a place called Industrial Metal Supply which is like a Walmart for metal buyers. you could buy copper off the shelf in the thickness you need.

so i'm thinking there'e probably got to be some similar place in Minnesota.

as far as melting pennies - it's illegal. not that anybody here would turn you in.

1982/1983 is the time-frame for the penny material. 1981 & before are 95% copper, & weigh 3.3 grams. zinc pennies weigh 2.7 grams.

what we always did as kids when we wanted flat pennies was put 'em on the railroad tracks.

the mcmaster website doesn't seem to like firefox.
onlinemetals is looking like it would cost about $200 bucks for a 2"x2"x4" peice

considering that copper costs just under $3 per pound and a piece with that size weighs about 5.2lbs that price seems really excessive (over 10x what it costs them).

any reasonable priced blocks/plates ?
