Hi all,

First of all, I am very clueless about Apple and its products. I have been asked to buy an Apple Ipad Air (LATEST version/generation) 32GB White color with Wi Fi AND Cellular that will work in Asia.

Questions -

1. Where shall I get it for the best price?
2. ATT (GSM) will work in Asia, right?
3. This one from Amazon is 4th generation, is it the latest version or is it old? = http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A27U4V14HWTXB8

Edit = Is this the new one ? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G2YEKOA/ref=psdc_1232597011_t3_B009W9ID0E

Anything I need to know about Ipad Air, let me know. Thanks.

afaik apple controls the price very firmly so there isn't likely to be a best price by more than a few bucks.

That ipad you've linked is old... 2 generations old I think. The air 2 is the most current one, and the air is in between.

As for what works in asia I'm not really sure, I know China is hit and miss because they use different bands but most of the rest of the world is on the same page.

The price will be the same everywhere unless you have a corporate discount or something.

I'd buy it from the Apple store or another electronics store with a good return policy in case something goes wrong.

Retailers often have deals that are basically a trade-in deal or an iTunes gift card.

Apple might have a good deal on cyber Monday.

Latest iPad is called the "iPad Air 2". The iPad 4 is pretty dated now by Apple standards. It still works fine and is supported by iOS 8, but there's little point in getting it if you want long term support. I'd be weary of buying any of the non 64-bit iOS devices right now.

Apple products very rarely go on sale, and retailers don't deviate that much from MSRP. If you're looking for a deal, you could try and find an open box item from a reputable store. Apple also sells refurbished items on their store. Link is tucked away at the bottom of the page. I doubt any Air 2s have made an appearance there yet. Usually last generation models.

I've heard of people getting good deals on iPads, but I've never seen one personally. Eventually I just decided to not worry about it and budget for at least $500 when buying one. I got one of mine from Apple and one from Wal-mart, both at retail prices.

Too expensive for my budgets.

*shrug* Well there's definitely cheaper tablets out there. I've got some of them too, but the ipad air is better than all of them. People bitch about apple's prices, but as far as I can tell you can't get an android tablet that offers an equivalent experience for less anyway. Once they start getting close in performance the prices are nearly the same. The nexus 9 looks to be the next closest thing now, and it's still $400.

The closest 10'' tablet to the iPad is the Galaxy Tab S, which normally retails for $500. Same price, but it's quite a bit slower than the Air 2. The only device that comes close is the Nvidia Shield Tablet, but that's more due to the GPU. It's also smaller.

My only beef with the iPad is the ridiculous amount they charge for additional storage. The damn things would be perfect if they had microSD. It makes sense from a design/usability perspective, but Apple is too greedy to ever implement it.

Just browse Off Topic religiously and there will be free ones posted every now and then.
You have to act fast though; the Mods like to lock the threads and keep all the free iPads for themselves.

Macmall.com is usually the cheapest, they offer the student price to almost everyone/everyday and that's about 10% off.

Plus they have nice bundles time to time.

iPad generation 4 and iPad Air are two different models...Your two links are one non-Air iPad with Retina (which is discontinued by Apple) and the other is the old version of the AIR (which is the only way to get 32GB and white from Apple)

iPad Air 2 is the latest generation:

GSM should work in Asia so AT&T, you'd need to verify what networks and if it's on the spec sheet. iPad Air 2's only come in Space Gray, Gold and Silver unless you ship it / order it from a customizer. They also only come in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. It's 3% off at MacMall.
