Where to buy an old laptop

Does anyone know where to get a descent used/refurbished laptop? I am looking for probably a PII/early PIII with a 13/14" screen. I just nned one for word processing and internet usage.

I have done some basic searches but most people seem to want 5-600 for P150 and 11" screen!! Ebay is just as bad: people are paying $400 for laptops with no floppy or battery. I am looking to spend about 400-$500.

Thanks,
jon

Check out DellAuction.com. They have a lot of off-lease laptops that are usually still under Dell's warranty. When the page comes up just click on Dell Financial Services and after that you will see a link for Notebooks.

You might be fighting the market value of laptops.
With a little luck you might find what you want on Ebay. Go to the laptop section and sort by items ending first and be prepared to react quckly.

yeah that's my beef with laptops. if i were you id wait for a hot deal. if you are willing to spend 400-500 id wait until a 600$ new pops up in hot deals. probably a celeron 667-733 and would be way better than anything used would be. remember when hp had those at wal-mart a while back? that was rocking. 550$ for a full laptop.

If you ever manage to pull this off... please be sure and let me know where you got the laptop.

you might want to try this... you'll probably have better luck than me...

speaking of Dell Auctions... dell isn't the only one that auctions the units?

great... yet another place to fall to the eastern european scam artists.

in a month or so my dad and i are working on buying 100 laptops for cheap, since they are as-is. we expect to recover 70, since most are perfect, and the ones that need parts i will cannibalize parts from units that have the parts needed and are also broken.

check fs/ft in about a month as i usually sell some stuff there, for cheap k6-500 to p3-600 lappys

Try the 'For Sale/Trade' Forum. I've purchased 2 there this year. Much better prices than elsewhere and overall much more honest sellers.

FS/T, or if you check Ebay everyday, you might find a deal that slips through the cracks. I got an off-lease (looks like its never been used, though) Compaq Armada 7400 (P2 366, 128 MB, 10 GB, DVD, 13.3 TFT, Magnesium Alloy case, new LIon battery) for $480 a couple of weeks ago. I was quite pleased, because I really didn't want to spend more than that, although I could've gotten something much faster for a few hundred more.

Well I found the Dell financial services on ebay...picked up a inspiron 3500 with pii 366 for $630 shipped........payed a lot more than i wanted, but still has warranty throught dell until september 2002, and there seems to be a plethora of cheap replacement parts for that model line on ebay should anything go wrong after the warranty.
