OK, I know this is similar to another thread about the 1.2 ghz Tbird, but its actually pretty different. That guy seems to want the retail chip with a long guarantee and no thoughts of overclocking.

I want the opposite. I don't expect much of a guarantee in terms of chip longevity. But I want to be sure of getting the blue core. I want to go over 1.2ghz with it, overclocking. (Actually I'll run it @133++ on an Abit KT133a raid board.)

I'd rather not pay for a guaranteed overclock speed. I just want a guaranteed shot at it, through a blue core. Without getting some cherry pickers rejects. If yah follow me.

Any advice? (Local is NYC. Don't know of a good local.)

the color of the core doesn't effect it's probably at OC'ing anymore. before it was a big deal if you got a green/blue core since it signified whether they came from the Dresden plant or not. but now that they use different colors it's highly likely you get a good colored chip and a bad OC'er, or the opposite.

Sure do wish I could get some more input on this.

What are my chances of getting a copper core if I order a 1.0ghz chip from one of the lower priced pricewatch places? Are there any places that will allow one to specify Dresden/copper??

Any knowledge out there?

AFAIK all 1GHz+ Tbirds are produced on copper ... not 100% sure, but I've heard this from several sources. Also AMD stated that all Tbirds being produced now are from Dresden, Austin only make Durons now

Cool.

I read that to mean that I have about as good a chance of reaching say 1.3ghz if I buy a 1.0ghz TBird, as I do if I buy a 1.2 ghz Tbird (which is about $100 more right now).

Is that how you see it?

I have to admit I'm not very certain on how AMDs binsplittings are running these days, you'll have to talk to people who has experience with this themselves... I'll be working on a Tbird1000 in next month and see who high it will go.. I'm aiming for 1200, but if it'll do 1300 that's not bad either *hehe* :)
