why does it have to be a northwood?

Probably for the most obvious reason, *Heat*. 😉

Also, a lot of boards designed for Northwoods just don't have beefy enough power regulation circuitry to handle the power demands of a 3GHz+ Prescott. I remember this being a big issue when Intel launched the "E" versions of the P4s and not every existing s478 board was deemed Prescott-compatible by Intel.

few vendors with the lowest prices for 3.0C 478 northwood

spartan technologies

as always, buyer beware; check merchant/seller ratings.

😛 I just got a really cheap 3.2 off Ebay, that said there was a MASSIVE bidding war in the last minute between 4 people, guess I just wanted it the most.
