I need 1000ft of cat5, connectors and 8 port boxes to add to the end of the cables.

This is for a LAN party and I need to get this stuff so that we are better organized. I heard that no one sells the 8 port boxes (look like a basic electrical box, but with 8 ports for cat8).

Online or offline is okay, just who ever has the cheapest stuff.

Thanks!

Wouldnt it be easier to just get some cheap switches? What you're describing sounds like there will be quite a few 8-cable snakes running around, along with more ports being used farther up the network. just run one uplink cable, power over ethernet, bada bing. =)

On a side note, just because i'm good a contradicting my own statements, i'd be interested in the network boxes you described too.

thing is when file leeching the speed isnt as fast as a straight connection to the switch.

Having run a few LAN parties here in Phoenix, one thing I have come to realize is that people who come to LAN parties just to swap files, are generally not the kind of people that are worth having there in the first place. One LAN group I saw a while back actually goes one step further to inhibit file sharing by having all gamers on 10MB switches instead of 100MB. 10 is WAY more than any game needs, even if you toss in the occasional patch download or game mod transfer. All file sharing does is push up your costs (as the event organizer) to the point where you eventually need to get GB equipment just to make people happy. I'd rather put that money into larger venues, more food and drink, strippers, etc. =)
