Where the hell to buy a stand-alone answering machine with caller-ID?

It seems to be impossible to find an answering machine with caller-ID that doesn't include a cordless phone. Any stores to check I probably haven't thought of?

Wow I'm stupid. I had seen that one at Staples a while ago but forgot it had a full LCD. Then I saw a bunch of similar Panasonics searching today, and none of them had a full LCD so I forgot they made that one.

Unfortunately I just noticed it's a bazillion dollars. Any other models?

Do people not leave their callback number on your answering machine? Why else would you need caller-ID?

I miss my old AT&T.

It stood up on end so it had a small footprint and had 1/2" LEDs near the top to show the messages. You could see if you had messages from 20 feet away.

They're obsolete. $5/mo for telco voicemail so you can receive messages while on the phone. Plus the telco's stuff doesn't break (at least not for me). I have an old at&t digital unit gathering dust somewhere... I'd probably still use it if I didn't get free voicemail w/ the call package I have and if it took batts to keep the time during a power outage.

I found a model on ebay that I would buy but it doesn't come with the power adaptor...how hard to find a properly sized power adapter?

Um, that's easy. ;) Most any electronics store. GE makes a bunch of them, AT&T too. Staples, buy.com, amazon.com, etronics, etc.

If you want a tape answering machine, that is much harder to find.

I have a tape answering machine now...and I love the thing--it has lasted me almost 15 years! I have kept some of the best incoming message tapes for posterity--evil girlfriends, interview request from Late Show, drunk friends, other stupid/funny stuff.

Um, buy one with the phone and then throw the phone in the trash. That is probably the cheapest way.
