Matt is not independently wealthy. Matt also doesn't have some magical secret for traveling cheaply. He does it pretty much the same way everybody else does.
If you're young and have had even a halfway successful career it's not at all difficult to travel like that. The difference is that most people don't.

You'd be surprised how cheap you can travel for.
His website said he saved up money for a few years before doing this trip though. He did this all in one trip.
