Hehe. Ofcource we all have that question.
One hypothesis is this; If you were msi would you send your card to AT or someone else? ;)
(and no that "someone" is not pcper pclab.pl...:))

I dont know. Perhaps the not so good relationship is still at stake here and amd wants to set an example by punishment or more likely the oem just dont want to use AT. Or AT just dont want to review it.
Or there could be 10 other reasons. We will never know for sure the right one as we will only hear sweettalk. Eg. "not enough time".

However because AMD isn’t producing any retail reference cards they have also opted to not pre-sample the press ahead of time for reviews. And while we’ll be looking at partner cards over the coming weeks, for today’s launch we do not have any cards or benchmarks in hand, and for the immediate future our focus is going to be on Fury.

No reference card = no review sample from AMD. I'm guessing he will review a custom board in a few weeks either with or after the Fury X review. IMO it would be nice to have the 390X on hand to compare it to the Fury X when he reviews it.

Along these lines.

Anandtech also never released a GTX 960 review.

Purch, what are you doing?

This site and Toms were my go to sites many years ago. After the Doc sold out, Toms went rapidly downhill. I really hope history isn't repeating itself.

Anand writers have said in the past that there isnt enough money to be made by buying products to review. So unless they get free samples, they dont do reviews.

That is the wrong way of looking at things.
This site's owners can afford to buy their own samples, instead of waiting for freebies. I am sure they can work out sponsored deals with newegg, or whomever else.
That means, the site should be buying said card for the reviewer in question.
That would also remove the temptation to write "soft" reviews because they are afraid of not getting freebies the next time.

Bingo. We'll have a 390X review in a couple of weeks.:)

Even if I had a sample on launch day, there wouldn't have been enough time with Fury also going on.
Understood, but Anandtech did not do a GTX960 review even though its the most popular new gen Nvidia card.

Just focus on Fury, looking forward to the in-depth write-up for the new uarch at AT! Plenty of other sites covered these custom 300 series which is nothing exciting from a PoV of someone already on high performance GPU. It's a rebadge/refresh and let's leave it at that.

I've heard retail samples throttle. :ninja:

That should get every site on the web to go out and buy one.

They may include a 390X review with the Fury for comparison sakes. But really, the 390X is and should not be the focus at this point in time. The Fury is the far more important card to be putting time into as its the one that we all want to see.

As a reader since early 2000...I'm still disappointed AT didn't put up a review (refresh or not).

Your sarcasm meter must be malfunctioning. ;)

Remember the 290 retail cards throttling issue? Well, it seemed like every site were buying retail samples to test it. Some even multiple cards.

making sure. I was about to report you. never can be too careful these days. I always report suspicious behavior to the authorities

Monday night's the night the NDA ends on the Fury X, right? So review sites should have their reviews up tomorrow (today)?

That's a shame. What the heck happen to this website? I mean, c'mon. There are literally a hand full of GPU launches a year. Make time for it. This site is going down the drain. Being busy isn't an excuse, either. Sites like these would have to know the release schedule of these video cards.

Technical hardware sites like these should have all major releases covered and reviewed on launch day. This is one of the biggest tech sites in the world. There is no excuse. Such a shame.

Meh. Its not an interesting card. Imo the good about AT reviews is not the benchmarking but the very solid explanation of the tech used.

Agree thats perhaps a solution. But the basic problem for a site is beeing number one / or on time with the news and not 7 days late. You lose business.

On a side note, please include min, average and max frame rates in test. I have completely stopped reading reviews without tbh.
