Do you have a local HT store? If so, you'll get better customer service from them.

I don't know what white glove service is, but a lot of shippers will dump the tv at your door step. Getting an RPTV up stairs is a chore...espescially since few of them have handles or segments.

I'll chime in from the ferengi perspective. If it doesn't involve at the very least a pricematch, you're not doing it right. ;)

"white glove" delivery is what they call the fancy delivery where they bring it into ur house rather than just push the box off the truck.

Only from a reputable retailer or local HT store. I'd never buy anything like that from some dopey yahoo store website.

Don't forget about extended warranty... is "Best Buy US" going to be there if/when something goes wrong??

I'd definitely go to Sears or CC.

Brandsmart sounds great but from their website it looks like it's only a walk-in store in Florida.

What I was hoping for was info like this:
"PAC-2000 is a scam etc"
"PAC-2000 is not a scam etc"
"Order from greatwebsite.com instead. They rule etc"

Don't buy something like a bigscreen TV online. You just wont have the customer service you need if anything goes wrong.

My suggestion is to pricematch aginst BB and use Sears or CC. Yes, you'll pay a couple hundred more than buying online and have to pay sales tax... but they'll be there if anything goes wrong and shipping it back wont be an ordeal.

Don't get me wrong, I do the vast majority of my shopping online and avoid sales tax like the plague. But when it comes to fragile, complex big ticket items like this, I need to know it can be returned/replaced with no trouble whatsoever.

Nice choice for a TV. :)
I have the 51SWX20B. I bought mine from CircuitCity w/2 year extended warranty. I like that they cover everything including screen burn in. Hopefully I'll never have to use it though.

Wait for it to go on sale at Sears or Circuit city. I wouldn't be suprised if you manage to get it for $3000+tax from either if you catch the right sale or deal.

BB doesn't carry Hitachi. Is there a way to work the price match CC vs Sears when they have the same price?

I'm going to go over there and see if they have any deals like X% off if you use our credit card... or $100 gift card... or free DVD player etc.

I'm a little scared of Sears.... their website makes it sound like I would have to pick this sucker up at the store and move it myself.

I'd say buy it from CircuitCity but wait until they have an offer you like. When I got mine several months ago I applied for a CC credit card so I could get the 12 months no interest financing. I also got a free Apex DVD player which I used as a Christmas gift.

BTW there seems to be a forum bug with your name... your name is "EyeOfThe" but when you reply to posts it shows up as "eyeofthe" all lowercase on the main forum page. Other names keep their case sensitivity. Guess you're just special. ;)

Sears will do delivery. I believe their home delivery charge for big screens is $45. And their extended warranties (if you like that kinda thing) are very reputable.

Hmmm.... Sears also has the Mitsubishi 65511 for the same price... and it's a HDTV not a HDTV Monitor.

I'll have to compare them when I get there...

Sears will pricematch, give them a shot & they occasionally offer free delivery & 30 day price adjustment (price protection).

Sears Price Matching Plus Policy
If you find a lower price on an identical branded item with the same features currently available for sale at another local retail store, Sears will match that price plus give you 10% of the difference. Just tell your sales associate at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase.

If you find a lower price (including shipping, handling and delivery) on an identical branded item with the same features currently available for sale and delivery in your area from a local retail store's online site, Sears will match that total price Plus, give you 10% of the difference. Just print the ordering page, including shipping, handling and delivery, and bring it to your Sears store at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase. If you are purchasing the item from sears.com, email the information to order@sears.com

I went to Sears and CC last night.

Sears:
Did not even have the 65" Hitachi or 65" Mitsubishi on display.
Free Delivery
Free DVD Player
30 Day price match

CC:
Had the 65" Hitachi on display
Free Delivery
Free DVD Player
30 Day price match

So it's basically the same deal. I'll have to compare their service plans.

One thing that sucked - I found out that the HDTV signal is coming into the store thru a satellite and being split, so the picture you see is only 45% (the guy in Sears said) of the full signal. Of course I want to see the FULL 100% Mind-Blowing HD-picture on a TV before I buy it, but the guy was like "Every store has it the same way. The only way you get to see the real deal is buy it, take it home and set up satellite TV." WTF? Why can't they flip a switch and demo a TV with the full signal?

The market is fairly soft, on a big ticket item like a HDTV, there's still wiggle room on the price, play off CC VS Sears & see where that puts you.

Also add in an extended service plan, you haven't lived till you try to take a monster into the shop.

Don't know if these TV's have a built in decoder or not, but if they do, you should be able to hook up rabbit ears & get an over the air HDTV broadcast in the store, if they won't let you do that buy form somewhere else.

Or hook up a progressive scan DVD player to the set in the store.

From Hitachi's website:

The premiere offering from Hitachi, the Director's Series makes a definitive statement in any room, from the elegant black high-gloss finish to the artfully sculpted profile. Hitachi's new Hybrid Wide-Neck CRTs, Super Contrast Lenses, proprietary VirtualHD digital video processor and Deep Black Anti-Reflective screen work in concert to deliver an unparalleled Home Theater experience. The integrated HDTV tuner enables reception of terrestrial and unscrambled cable HDTV signals, eliminating an outboard HDTV tuner. There are digital interfaces for both DVI and IEEE 1394 for use with the latest generation of HDTV set-top boxes.

Yep, rabbit ears should do it...

That 45% signal sounds like some BS to me. Unless they're using some very low quality cable I would think every TV would have the exact same signal strength. Especially since they're on the same channel coming from most likely the same receiver.
The SWX series does not have a built in tuner. The XWX series does. I decided to go with Time Warner Digital Cable for my 7 HD channels since that way I pay $7/month for their box rental... instead of $1000+ upfront to convert my directv dish & receiver to newer models. That's by far the cheapest way. The other way is to buy a receiver with or without directv support and hook it up to a UHF/VHF antenna... or even better a roof mount monstrousity.

$1000+?

You can get an HDTV DirecTV box for around $500 and a triple LNB dish for $100.

At any rate, you'll still have to have cable or an antenna to get your local channels in HDTV, because while DirecTV may have local channels in major markets, they do not have them in HDTV.
