Ok here's the lowdown. I just picked up a SATA HD from newegg. I also have a 80 gb maxtor ATA133. I think the SATA is way faster, so in what way would I experience the best performance gains. Installing my OS on it or putting Data and running games off it?

-thanx
Scott😀

1. afaik ata133 is a myth, maybe so is ata100 for that matter. but maybe HD have sped up since i last read about it

2. how big is ur new sata hd?

3. i dont think sata is "way" faster than ata133, but it probably is a bit faster

4. assuming sata is faster, u would see the best performance gains using the sata drive only. run ur OS and data and games off of it. but that goes back to question 2. if you need to use both drives, use the 80gb for things that dont really need extra speed, like boring data. put games and OS on the sata

I'd install your OS and applications on the SATA drive and use the IDE drive for music, movies, etc. When you install Windows, make sure to unplug the IDE drive so the SATA drive shows up as C:\. You'll know what I mean if you forget 😉.

Holy crap I know what you mean, don't remind me. Lost all my stuff.
Anyway, go with what ^he said, I run my OS/software off my raptors with primo results.
All my music, drivers, etc. on the ATA100.

kk thanx guys, anyways the SATA is a 120gb seagate... so the OS is the place to put it! great grand thanx guys
