I was curious if I should get one from Newegg and maybe not get a G0 guaranteed or if I should pay quite a bit extra and get one from Tankguys or something. Any tips? Thank you.

I am pretty sure that there are only G0's being sold at the major etailers. They have been out for quite awhile now. So, go for the best available price.

I picked one up at Microcenter.

Edit: In Boston. In case that helps at all, heh.

Is quad core the way to go over dual core now? Or the other way around? Thanks for the tips.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but I think it all depends what you'll be doing. Some of the OC'd C2D perform better than an OC'd 6600. And in some other tests it's the exact opposite. Do some googling for some benchmarks, and you'll get plenty of good articles.

Looking ahead, I would say yes. If you are not going to upgrade for about a year or so, the Quad is seemingly the way to go, as apps are more and more going to utilize the advantages of quad cores. I use the hell out of my Q9450 and I still have headroom. :)

In the short term, no. In the long term, yes. Right now, most applications don't fully utilize a dual core, let alone a quad. Looking forward though, more and more apps will be coded to utilize multiple core CPU's.
