Where should I mount my radar detector?

Got an Escort Passport 8500 today, and right now I have it put about 8 inches from my dashboard. Is that a good enough spot for it? I've seen many people mount it below their rear view mirror..but will my set up do?

Mount it at eye level. You really should have it as high as possible to get the most range. Also, the higher you mount it, the further you get it away from the defroster vents. However, I don't recommend mounting it such that you have to look up. Keep it close to eye level.

Mount it as high as possible, when I had mine, (i sold my 8500 for a V1, then sold that after I noticed I don't speed)... I had mine right at the top of the windshield.. not only does it make it less obvious to thieves, but I had mine next to my rear view mirror, so when I was checking my mirror it was right next to it..

Yeah..I don't have mine wired to the fuse, just using the cig ligther.
