Ok so I am going to UCLA grad school next year and am out here looking for places to stay in LA. I am looking at places with a roommate to make it cheaper. Right now I have 2 choices

1) with a girl who lives in Palms, and has a decent size apartment and is really nice and reminds me of a lot of my female friends in Baltimore. a graduate from UCLA and is working

2) with a guy who reminds me of most of my guy friends in Baltimore and has a larger apartment in Brentwood (better looking neighborhood), but $100 a month more expensive, and is a senior at UCLA

both i think I would get a long with, but its hard to decide since I have no clue what grad school will be like. If it was my lifestyle right now i would def. go with the guy, but i feel i am gonna have to get out of this Undergraduate frame of mind and really work hard and not party as much..

any thoughts..

Just based on location, go for Brentwood. Nicer area and closer to the school.

The girl, all the way.

The guy is a senior, he will party his ass off and annoy the heck out of you while you study. Plus, he could leave after a year.
The girl is a graduate and probably has a more stable income and personality

When in graduate school [room] size doesn't matter. You'll be too busy to notice. If you're a party animal, you'll be out partying and if you're a bookworm, you'll be busy studying at a desk/table anyway.

However, if you room with the girl, you can pretty much kill any chances of bringing guys (Mon. night football, beer drinking, movie watching, etc) or gals (movie watching, 'studying', overnight, etc) over for some fun unless she's into that too. Room with the guy and you'll have the opportunity to do all that....actually, you'll probably have so many opportunities, your grades would probably drop if you tried.

Oh, I can't help but ask: Is the girl hot and single?

I could probably throw a million more arguments/counterarguments ( I'm good at it ) but nobody likes long posts.

yeah the girl was pretty good looking, she had just gotten out of the shower when i came by so it was hard to tell exactly what level of hotness she was though =)

Yeah I am making sure she knows that I would be having people over to watch sports/movies and drink beer, although for football i usually like going to bars anyway and being able to see multiple games, but i guess monday night doesnt fit into that so that comment didnt really matter.

Tallest 1, I don't really agree with your assessment about the Senior guy. He might be working his ass off to get into grad school or something. Nonetheless, this is my assessment, and there's a chance that you will/won't agree with it.

I say you go w/ the girl... mainly cuz of habits... she's probably cleaner, will clean up after herself, probably be more quiet and sensitive to your studying needs.

Sure the location isn't as great nor the house as big, but that doesn't really play much of a role (+ you're saving 100 dollars)

If I were to choose that's what I'd go for, and hey, the girl is, well a girl =)

(unless she's psycho or something) then you have nothing to worry about! Good luck on your housing.

Dang! If she knew you were coming but still answered the door fresh out of the shower, I'd go crazy wondering if she did that on purpose :Q

Good point, gumpie. Not all seniors are like that.

Always rember most male roommates are pigs. If you keep up with your mess it might be a wise choice to go with the girl.

And who knowes what the benifits might be.
