Where should I get a job?

I need a summer job, and things are looking pretty grim. I've already applied to a local tourist attraction, and a local Blockbuster, but neither places have called me yet. The local Best Buy isn't even taking applications anymore!

I've emailed a few local computer stores, but I'm not holding out hope for them. Does anyone have any possible suggestions for a job I could get?

P.S. Before anyone suggests it, I'm not auctioning off any part of me on Ebay.
 
Or you can do what Skoorb does to make some extra and sell your underwear on ebay.

Just start hitting shops in person. It's much harder to ignore someone standing in your store inquiring about employment than it is to delete an email from some anonymous shmoe. How old are you? If you've at least 18, you could try to find a position as a bar back....should make decent money as well if they do the tip-sharing thing.

Okay, let MrsSkoorb fix this thread!

First of all, I don't know how old you are. If you want just a summer job and don't mind what you do, work at a restaurant serving tables. It SUCKS hardcore but they tips can be really awesome. That may be something to look into! Even fastfood restaurants...if you can get lots of hours, you can get lots of money. I mean, they are not fun, but what summer job is? Unless you are a lifeguard...you are not are you?

Go to your local employment center. They usually have lots posted with a variety of things to do from mowing grass to holding a stop sign (believe it or not, they make decent wages!)

Also, maybe try to find employment at a store you might patonize yourself....employee purchase prices/deals can be very nice. That's how I got all my nice bicycle stuff years ago.😀
 
btw, MrsSkoorb I heard of the radio this morning there's a severe nursing shortage in Texas and Nevada and each state is fighting to take away the others nurses. Any luck speeding you're certifications along?

I'm 17 right now, but I'm turning 18 the 23rd of July. Waiting tables hadn't occured to me for some reason, probably because I usually just see female waitresses around the city.

As for bar tending, that's a really interesting thought. I'd get to tell people when they'd had enough, learn how to mix drinks, and just generally... be a bartender.

You can make plenty of loot doing it as well....not to mention meeting plenty of women.😀

It might be somewhat difficult to get hired right on as a bartender, but fairly easy to start as a bar back (kind of a backup tender/prep cook/whatever else they need you for that day) and then progress to tending bar. I have a good friend who put himself through grad school tending bar at a popular joint here in Atlanta.

Well now you've got me seriously interested in this. Is it legal for a place to high me if I'm under 18 as a bar back? I'm pretty sure I have to wait until I'm 18 to actually work as a bar tender.
 
Not sure. I know you have to be 18 to actually serve someone, but don't know about being 18 to just work at a place that serves alcohol. Call and ask I suppose.
