I miss Wunderland back in Portland. Pay a nominal fee and and get to play 99% of the games for less than two bits. I could spend all day in there with $5 and play the ticket machine games and buy worthless junk for my neice and nehpews. Now you have Gameworks and such that charge a buck a game and usually you spend mucho money! X_X *siiiiiiiiiigh*

So anybody know if any nickel arcades exists here in Twin Cities?

lol, for us in Michigan, "nickel arcades" are but a fantasy. I don't know about the rest of the MW. ^_^

In Ann Arbor though, there is a "Nichols Arcade", but that's an arcade in the old sense of the word, with little shops and whatnot. ;)

The reason the old-style arcades don't work anymore is because it's not profitable.

Think about it, it's called inflation. You think that 25 cents now is worth the same as 25 cents back in the 80's? Arcade machines are about 10x more expensive than they were back then, and charging a quarter isn't going to cut it.

I remember this one arcade down in Austin which had all games for a quarter. Even the driving ones that usually cost a buck at least. Then there was this one arcade in Arlington where you paid 5 bucks at the door and got your hand stamped. All the games were free except for the pool tables. Texas Games baby!

Come to the IX center here in Ohio... a lot of the special events they have (halloween fest, car shows, home improvement etc etc) feature free arcade games. Of course, you have to pay to get in, but its cheap. I went to the halloween fest with my nephew last year and played free arcade games (good ones too)
