Where oh where are the 533mhz fsb P4's?

BD231

Wasent Intel suppose to bump up the FSB with their new P4's?, I've been looking at prices on them and I can only seem to find 400mhz fsb proc's. Dose anyone have an Idea when we'll be seeing them?

<<probably won't see them for another 6 months or so. >>

Well that sucks a phaty, is this because of RAMBUS or what?, why is Intel holding out on this one?.

I heard March/April at the earliest but no one really knows...well, Intel does. If you can lock down a date for the .13 AMD XPs it's a good bet Intel's 533 stuff will appear exactly then, too.

<< Well that sucks a phaty, is this because of RAMBUS or what?, why is Intel holding out on this one?. >>

I don't think it is RAMBUS. My reasons: PC1066 was demonstrated over 6 months ago and PC1200 was demonstrated a few days ago. Thus RAMBUS is two upgrades ahead of Intel already. PC1066 isn't being sold yet since no computer can really utilize it.

There's really no need for Intel to release P4's with 533mhz fsb speeds right now. The new Northwoods are competitive with current XP's and it looks as though Intel will gain some marketshare with enthusiast if all the "Which P4 motherboard should I buy?" threads are indicative of anything. I'm betting Intel won't release P4's that run on a 533mhz fsb and a PC1066 RDRAM chipset until AMD's about to release the Thoroughbred cpu's.

<< There's really no need for Intel to release P4's with 533mhz fsb speeds right now. >>

Theres plenty reason for Intel to release 533fsb Northwood's and PC1066 RDRAM. Take a look here and read the table at the bottom and the rest of the article. That was benchmarked on a Asus P4T with modified Rambus Clock generators, but is running at 533fsb/PC1066. There is plenty reason for 533fsb/PC1066. As a matter of fact, it should put even more distance between Northwood and the Athlon XP.

And it should come soon, at most the last 400fsb Northwood will be 2.4GHz, then for 2.53GHz, it will be a 533fsb CPU. So in a couple of months, 850e, 845e, 845g, 533fsb Northwood's and equivalent SiS and VIA products will be released. And really, Johan didn't test this, but the difference between 845-D and 850e+PC1066 should be biig enough for really RDRAM to be very much worth the price difference (if any).

It's all marketing. Since the Northwood @ 2.2ghz is an inch faster than Palomino @ 1667mhz, they're satisfied. There's no point in upping it too far. As long as they have a flagship that's faster than AMD's flagship, even by an inch, it will sell. They don't care about delivering users super-duper performance, since all they care about is their stockholders.

<< They don't care about delivering users super-duper performance, since all they care about is their stockholders. >>

that doesn't make sense. you can't care about one, without the other. to make stockholders happy, they have to make a bunch of money. to do that, they need to provide the best product for customers.

anyway, i figure we'll see the 533mhz p4's in late q2.

They care about Dell, too. 😉

Ionizer please! AMD has said the same things that they will release processors as the market demands it. We both know both these compaines could be releasing faster cpus right now but are holding some of it back. From tom's review today we can see that more bandwith is better for the P4, and should give it another boost to compete against AMD's higher scaling thoroughbred. You act like Intel owe's you something.

Chris is right. Thats very selective thinking.

Intel doesn't owe us anything, but at least AMD doesn't change the socket configuration every time they bring out a new processor.

Yeah they(VIA) just brings out new revisions to their motherboards every 3 months, i.e. KT133,KT133A,KT266,KT266A.

I think its clear both AMD and Intel have their own set backs.

There's really no need for Intel to release P4's with 533mhz fsb speeds right now.

How can that be when it take almost 1000mhz to best an athlon XP?, I know the P4 is suppose to be highliy scaleable, but a 1000mhz gap is a rather LARGE gap to fill.

Its a large gap that your average PC buyer doesn't know about. The only people that do know about this gap are guys like us and as long as AMD doesn't run television adds telling the world about this gap then Intel has nothing to worry about.

not only the gap, but also reliability. i wish people were more educated when it comes to computer hardware. i mean, i know like tons of people who'd opt to go for a p3 1ghz that an athlon xp+ because they think AMD breaks fast.

those ads you were talking about seem to make sense you know..amd seriously needs to build up public trust.
