At the bottom at home, on the right at work.

Hmm I tried it on the right, it was actually pretty nice but I was wondering if it would screw up some websites (ie - since the browser window is smaller, some of the stuff will be off-screen).

I've never had any trouble with it however I'm using 1600x1200 on that PC. It works well when you have an average of 20 programs in the taskbar. 🙂

for the primary monitor: on the bottom, double height, visible.
secondary monitor: on the bottom, single height, visible.
at work: on the bottom, double height, visible.

at 1280x1024 resolutions, it's rare that i maximize any window to fill the entire screen therefore i can afford the screen real estate to show the taskbar.

Bottom of the rightmost monitor. I usually have my main work area taking up all of the middle display and the toolbars and reference materials off on the right display.
