I got my new 5port switch today and I reliased one thing different from my hub..
I can't find uplink port..
The manual says to use mdi port and straight through cable.. whatever that means..
There is this port marked as two pararel lines, and one as X and the others has 1x 2x 3x 4x..
which port shall i use as uplink port?

See above.

It's the same port. There should be a toggle for changing it from standard to uplink. "X" is crossover mode, and "ll" is standard.

EDIT: The other possibility is that there is no toggle and it's a straight uplink. If that's the case, then it will be shared with one of the other ports so that both can't be used at the same time.

What brand/model switch is it?

u r going to use the port with X. Thats the uplink port, some hubs and switches have a button to change a normal port to a uplink port and others hubs and switches have another port that is the uplink port but u cant use a normal port if u use the uplink port.

It is very likely that your switch doesn't have an uplink port. That's OK, it's really not necessary.

To connect two hubs/switches together you just need to have a cross in the send/receive pairs of the wire. You can do this one of two ways:

1: Use an uplink port on ONE of the devices and a regular cable (Use the uplink port on both and you can cross the crosses and end up with it not working)

2: Go out and buy a crossover cable, which has the send/receive wires crossed.

If you get a crossover cable (available at any computer store) you can just plug it into any port on your hub or switch and it will work fine. That's all it takes!
