I've been using it for a couple days and really like it. But a few things irk me a bit.

1) No drop down URL button.
2) No Google Toolbar.
3) The search box is a bit buggy. I click on the suggest sites and sometimes it doesn't go to that site. Maybe this has to do my slow connection.
4) In Win 7, Safari windows don't combine with the original safari icon.

I have always wished they had a URL pulldown in Safari, but I don't think it's meant to be. The new Safari toolbar seems better to me than the Google toolbar. Haven't observed the other issues you note.

Well, what I like about Google Toolbar is that I can have all types of search (image, web, books) in that little box. I use online bookmarking all the time (never worry about losing bookmark again), and the dictionary translating to other languages is helpful.

Does Safari toolbar has any of these? I dunno, it was one of the first thing I turn off.

Get Inquisitor or Glims. Glims has the same functionality by default as the firefox search box extension where you have to select which search engine you want to use (which drives me completely batty) however, it and Inquisitor can be set to use keyboard shortcuts, and I prefer how Inquisitor looks and handles the search requests.

That is seriously the most annoying thing (to me) about Safari. Other than the lack of a drop-down bar, I think that it is a very nice browser.

What do you guys mean by a lack of Google Toolbar? There is the Google search box right? What else?

I've been searching for a way to do this as well, and haven't found anything. Why Apple couldn't just put a checkbox in the Preferences, I have no idea.

You mean like the tabs in Google Chrome? I read that it was in the safari beta but Apple decided against it in its final release.

I also think Safari is the most difficult browser to open a new tab. It's way over on the right side of screen and the botton is rather small. There is a dedicated new tab button in the customization but it still doesn't make as much sense as in IE8 or Chrome.

It's not as advertised, but you can just double click in the open tab space and it opens a new tab, or just use keyboard shortcuts (CMD + T).

As for the beta, I liked having the tabs on top, and now they're back underneath... which isn't horrible, but I just liked the UI change.

I always just hit Command-T.
