I was putting together a system for my brother, with ECS K7ama board and tbird 1ghz and ddr memory from crucial. I had loaded Win 98SE without any problems, but when he tried to load a game on it from a CD-ROM, it wouldn't load and he kept getting a
"Disk I/O Error". Then Windows kpet popping up saying the registry was corrupted. Windows tried to fix it, but couldn't and the error kept coming up. I then reformatted and reinstalled. During instalation, the Windows CD wasn't copying all the files correctly.

At this point I just figured that the CD drive was bad... it had messed up the the game and the original instalation of windows, and now it was messing up this instalation. so i pulled out the cdrom drive and put in one that i knew works and reformatted again and reinstalled Windows. Now, the registry problem is coming up again, and it cant' be fixed.

What is the problem here. Is there something not right in BIOS on the board taht is messing this up, or is the harddrive? norton scanned the drive and didn't find any phsical errors. so now i'm lost. i have no idea. any input would be appreciated

heat problems cause that... you should check to make sure that your CPU is properly cooled--ajnd that your Hard drive isn't getting too hot...also, try different RAM
