Where is the pagefile.sys located???

In win2000??
I can't find it anywhere, neither in my root directory, d:, or in the winnt folder. I have set it as a permanent swapfile(256 mb). I'm just wondering because I'm sure I haven't disabled swapfile use(didn't see that option anywhere, it's not possible I guess??)

It's a hidden system file. From the cmd prompt:

attrib pagefile.sys

It will show you something like this:

A SH C:\pagefile.sys

Which indicates that the archive bit is set, and it is a System file as well as being Hidden. With the right options set under your folder view, you can see these hidden and system files.

If you don't see it in C:\, it might be in the root of one of your other logical or physical drives. Hope that helps.

Hi:

I have ticked the 'view hidden folders and files' option, but I just can't find it anywhere. I've also done a search on all my drive, but it can't find it. I'm dual booting with winMe/win2k
and I thought of letting them share a swapfile, but I want to find the pagefile first.

Well do it from the cmd prompt like I suggested. Go to Start-->Run, then type cmd and press enter. Hidden files won't show up when you just do a dir. Did you try attrib? If it's there, attrib will know about it.

Hi,

In order to be able to see pagefil.sys with Explorer in W2K you'll also have to uncheck the selection called "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" in the Tools | Folder Options dialog's View tab.

I'm not familiar with Windows ME, but I don't think that it will share a "swap file" with Windows 2000.

Regards,
Jim

Hey thanks, that did the trick.
Now I also see the boot.ini, couldn't understand where that was either...
I've read that win98 and win2k are able to share a swapfile, so I just assumed winMe and win2k also could.

DOS? what's DOS?
Just like an AOL user saying "Internet? FTP? Telnet? What's that?" 😉
But then i guess it's the same thing as users on real isp's wondering what the hell an AOL "keyword" is... oh well.
hey, if it doesn't have a cute button or picture to click, i don't know what the hell i'm doing.

-syf3r.
keyword: aolsucks
(this is, of course, entirely an opinion)
