Where is the love for FZ-8?

I've seen countless threads about Ducati Monsters, Triumph Speed Triples, and Jule's rants about his SV650, but we've never really discussed the FZ-8. What do you guys think about it!? I think it looks great all around, fills the gap between 600 & liter bikes, and can fulfill a multipurpose aspect if needed. Oh and its nekkid!

Thoughts?

Looks pretty good. Got any specs? HP, weight, price, etc?

Not sure about that rear end, I'd have to see pics of it from the back.

Edit-And what's the deal with mentioning me and my current bike? I like it but I wouldn't say I rant about it...

you cant even really get one yet, hence a lack of threads about how good they are since no one has ridden one......

I'd kill for one personally

they love it.

~106hp, 60ft/lbs 460lb wet

'rides the like 600 with the grunt of a 750'

It seems like the japanese manufacturers have recognized that there is a niche for the naked sportbikes and they are doing their best to introduce them into the market. That said the existing performers have very good track records:

-Monsters are generally thought of as grunty performers with great performance. Oh, and it's a Ducati.
-Triumph's Speed Triple is a old naked streetfighter going back to the mid-90s.
-Triumph's Street Triple is a new naked that was Motorcycle.com's 2009 Bike of the Year. It has received rave reviews. It also weighs in at almost 40# lighter (wet weight)

When it comes right down to it you have to make your choice based on what you want. I personally want to go with the Triumph St3R because (a) it's a Triumph and not another japanese sportbike, (b) everyone I've talked to has said great things about it, (c) I think it looks sexier as hell stock and the aftermarket parts make it look even better. Those big ass circle headlights look awesome.

Not saying that the FZ-8 isn't a cool bike, but it is also brand new and it doesn't have a predecessor to base itself off of. The 2011 Speed Triple is new this year but it has the 2010 base itself off.

I'll reserve judgement until I see a shootout between all the new nakeds. The St3R has managed to hold off most competitors and the new Speed Triple "should" be a great bike.

its a FZ1 chasis, so its not eaxctly a 'brand new bike'

Dang, thats a cool bike.
I'm a KTM guy at heart, so they'll always be my first choice.
But other than them, the Japanese bikes always seem to have dealers and parts even in the smallest of towns. So for convenience, I'd almost lean towards a Japanese bike instead of a Euro bike.
Loving all these nakeds coming out recently. The new Honda CB1000 is gonna be a horse too!

The Japanese have been offering naked bikes in Europe for many years. There are a bunch of bikes they make strictly for that market that they don't bring here.

And I love the naked bikes. There is just something about seeing the engine, the frame, the cooling system...or lack thereof, that appeals to me. Maybe it's the simplicity, nothing is there that doesn't need to be there, maybe it's that it doesn't look like what everyone else is riding. Maybe it's all of these things.

I have absolutely zero interest in the streetfighter look. I find cruisers mildly appealing, sports cruisers or semi nakeds as very "meh", and full faring supersports to be my preferred aesthetic.

Streetfighter's look moronic. Realistically speaking from a performance perspective the differences generally range in single-digit percentages in similar price brackets, so it all boils down to the visual appeal. Streetfighter bleeds mohawk-guy-trying-too-hard-to-be-macho.

Cute bike though.

That may be true, however the naked bikes you see in the states are for the most part european and now the Japanese are trying to grab a piece of that market with their latest offerings. They may have been with the crowd in Europe but it would seem that they waited for the euro manufacturers to pave the way in the states before bringing the bikes our way.

Laying it all out on the table. There's nothing hidden, there's no aerodynamics to it, it's just an awesome looking machine. And you don't see too many out there.

Everyone has their sense of style. With a streetfighter you lose top speed, fuel economy, and potential rider comfort. You also lose the weight of the plastics.

Rider sans gear bleeds mohawk-guy-trying-too-hard-to-be-macho.

That's ok, you're one lowside away from being a streetfighter guy. :awe:

the FZ6 and FZ1 have been out a good while. in fact, it's only been recently that yamaha introduced the FZ6R (faired version of the FZ6)

What you lose in being able to tuck in behind a piece of plastic you gain in neck muscles and besides, most naked bikes have actual handlebars so you aren't hunched over putting all that pressure on your wrists. Yeah yeah, you should use your back to support you...but nobody does this 100% of the time while they ride so you do end up putting more pressure on your wrists especially under braking.

Oh, and I see more of those mohawk wearing dudes on fully faired sport bikes than any other type of motorcycle...BY FAR!!!
