I suppose "The Saint" was kind-of a knock-off version of that idea. It started the same year as the first Bond movie. Though, looking it up, it seems the books it was based on predated the Bond novels by decades.

That's funny. I just rewatched that last month for shits and giggles. It was hokey and mostly average but kind of a bit fun.

What about The Avengers? It's actually quite good, and you get to watch one of the loveliest ladies ever: Dianna Rigg (also the only ever Ms. Bond--well, until recently I guess, lol) run around in a leather suit.

The Avengers was always more overtly tongue-in-cheek and slighty-surreal than Bond. Rather like The Prisoner. Shame the movie version was such a flop.

Something I would have loved to see was for Patrick McNee to make some sort of appearance on Game of Thrones. Would have been awesome/funny to have seen him playing a scene opposite Ms Rigg (maybe as the Tyrell's spymaster!). I think he was too busy dying of something at that point, though, sadly.
