Where is the G35 AWD model starting at for price?

Of course not. That would be too smart!

Well, I'd say they're working smart coming with just an auto AWD tranny. They don't know what sales will be like, so why spend so much money developing 2 trannies when they're not even sure what the sales will look like?

well they will need a manual tranny for AWD anyway for the coming sport models.

Have you even driven one? You should try it. I get more "Go" traction in the rain than a regular RWD or FWD car on dry pavement. That means I never "sit and spin" when pulling out into a busy intersection for one thing.

Well, I bitched and griped forever, but I think that'll be the closest we'll get to having a Skyline GT-R here in the states 😉

The GT-R is coming in 2007. Nissan stated that recently. I thought you knew.

the only awd ive driven is an suv... lol... 😕 and around here... we don't have to deal with rain to often... or snow for that matter. 😀 i guess people on the east coast would have better use for it. but then... hearing about the G35 AWD... all i imagine are people here going to starbucks with it. 😕

AWD certainly helps dry handling. Longitudonal force spread over all four wheels so there is no, or less imbalance in lateral traction between front and rear.

well i see that its a performance aid for cars like the evo and the wrx... but a heavy GT car... i dunno. oh well... not like i could afford one anyway. 🙁

Heavy GT car? The G35 is a sport sedan. The coupe is a sports car.

wait so only the sedan will get the AWD?... anyway the coupe looks like a GT to me... not a pure sportscar IMHO.

Well the technical definition of a pure sports car is that it have two seats. And you're right, the G35 is not a light car (though it does handle very well).

What you guys also need to know is that the G uses the ATESSA system. Meaning, from a stop and in low-traction situations, the torque is split 4 ways on all corners. But when cruising along, the system diverts back to 100% RWD.

Meaning, you won't get the on-the-roll drag associated with most AWD/4WD systems.

Hmm.. So it makes it impossible to launch without burning up your clutch, without useful cornering traction? That does not sound right.

Say what again? 😕

since all wheel drive cars don't allow wheel slip in takeoffs, or limit it anyway, the stress of the overpowering engine revs will won't be released as a wheel slip as in normal rwd, or fwd cars, it'll affect the clutch. (i would imaigne.. i didn't think of it until wink mentioned it.. makes sense to me. i guess)

i remember reading an article that it's practically impossible to launch an awd laborghini w/ wheel spin. you need to drop a clutch at a correct rpm range, and if you miss that window of opportunity there goes your expensive ass clutch. some racer did it, and one of the mags, i can't remember which tried once or twice, but failed and stopped trying inorder not to foot the bill for the new clutch..

the second part of without usuful cornering traction, that refers to the fact that the awd is only for low speed range, do during a high speed turn, there won't be awd assistance.. *sucky.. so what' the point of the added weight of the awd system?

Rather than try to explain it myself.

Linky 1

Basically, if traction is not needed you get 100% RWD functionality. Otherwise, the electro-magnetic clutch (no differentials here) along with the computer will start splitting the power among the front and rear drive wheels.
