no barebones kits that i'm aware of, a laptop is a bit tougher to pull off than a desktop, don't know if anyone here on the forums would have the skill to build one, even if you could somehow find the parts...

best way to approach it would be to put up a WTB (Wanting To Buy) thread in the For Sale/For Trade forum. I have a couple of (older) laptops myself i'd be willing to part with for a very reasonable amount, and you'd no doubt have quite a few other offers as well :)

Cheapest would be the hookups. Cheap cheap would be illegal hookups. I'm happy with my employee discount and all that though. Got my toshiba 700p3 with dvd and all that for 990 a few months ago when laptops weren't as cheap as they are now.

Never seen a barebones kit here either.
I have put a couple together from scratch and it is a swift pain in the ass.
Maybe what I did is not considered 'building' a machine, but I dismantled some IBMs down to the case (to leave the S/N intact) and replaced all the components.
It would have been much more efficient to have just given the customer new machines.

Sam's Club?

I've been eyeing a KDS P3 800Mhz, 128MB RAM, DVD drive, 14.1" TFT. They run $999 at my local store. Thought I might get one for my brother or the model lower when he goes to college in the spring.
