Comparing a Yate Loon fan (which is probably the cheapest workable fan available) to a Papst fan (which is widely considered to be the best) I see a big difference in the size of the motors... Panaflo fan motors (another highly respected brand) are even larger!

Does this NOT make a difference?

Well think of it this way - smaller motor = more blade area = more airflow for same RPM :D

Also less heat generation due to smaller motor?

Refurbs though (probably pulls)...

What are their stats? besides the 0.6A. CFM? RPM? dBa?
Apologies! I didn't mean to hijack this thread...

These are industrial strength fans. Their claim to fame is they push a lot of air, they're built like a rock, they'll last 50,000 hours, and Dell used them in their PowerEdge servers -- two in the front and three in the back, if I remember correctly. They're legendary for their quality of construction and noise...

I just mentioned them 'cause Zipper brought up Sanyo Denki...

Nobody is going to pay $85 (new) for a 1225-12HBA, or even $18 (used), so it was silly of me to bring it up.

My bad! Carry on... ;)

Hey Vin,

I finally found a reference to the JMC fan I bought - it was the 1225-12HBA. It was in the bgmicro.com catalogs in 2004 at $3.75 each! Now I wish I had kept it... I see some sites per Froogle asking $215 for pulls/refurbs...

Hard to say. However, the power (i.e. heat output) consumed by the fan itself is basically negligible at lower speeds (1-2K RPM).

Two 120x25 fans for $7 shipped and you want them cheaper???
Un-f-ing believable

think he meant $7 shipping + 2x$4 fans... or maybe I'm wrong.
