Grand Cayman is an awesome island to go to. My personal favorite as a matter of fact. It is a bit expensive though..we usually stay in a condo when we go, but there are some cheaper single/couples places around. Also Jamaica has a nice setting for partying etc, or then again you could do the same thing in the Bahamas for a more American atmosphere.

Aruba is nice

Curacao is right next to Aruba but you don't have Bubba and Charlene "The Average American Tourist" sitting right next to ya on the beach....the nude beach. Spent 2 months there "on assignment" 2 years ago. Diving is good. Most everyone speaks English (It is a Dutch colony). Food is really good. Stuff to do is kinda bleak, but relaxation can be done pretty much anywhere.

Curacao, sounds nice how expensive is the food, it would be nice to be somewhere a little less americanized for a while

Here's an idea for you.

Instead of the Caribbean, which everybody goes to, why not try something in the South Pacific, like Tonga, or Fiji?

A friend of mine has done both, and he likes Tonga better than anything in the Caribbean because of the value you get for your travel dollar.

They have the standard fast food fare there for those on a budget. Sit down places can range from $12 to $70 for a nice dinner. I was working, so the local supermarkey kept my food bin full. If you, or anyone, finds themselves there, go to Ribs and Chips. The best ribs I have ever had. (Strange to get good ribs on a tropical island?!?)

Leetman stole my thunder,

Grand Cayman=no unemployment, no crime, and Seven Mile Beach. Seven Mile Beach is all publicly owned. Even if you own a house on Seven Mile Beach you don't own the beach in front of your house. The Grand Caymans are a former Bitish colony so not too much culture shock. Have the turtle soup.

xerox man,

That is a great idea but, most of the trips to the south pacific I have seen are pretty expensive, tahiti is supposedly awesome espically Bora Bora.
Apprently the beaches of the south pacific blow the caribbean ones out of the water, I ave been to Hawaii and the beaches there are spectacular.....

Tonga looks nice, but airfair from the East coast would probably be way expensive.

Nassau & Paradise island in the Bahamas are nice, so was Jamaica. Even the Florida Keys are really cool.

I have lived on St. Croix and visited Aruba, San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Virgin Gorda (BVI). My two favorites were Virgin Gorda and St. Maarten. I don't remember much about Aruba (I was young), and I wouldn't recomend St. Croix. I think there are nicer places to go than San Juan and St. Thomas. Virgin Gorda was my favorite, but I don't think it would be the kind of environment you are looking for. It was very peaceful and quiet - not really a "resort" type place. St. Maarten was really cool and there are multiple all-inclusive places. I enjoyed it because it seemed to have a much more authentic "carribbean" feel - unlike most of the USVI and other prime touristy locations. Ive never been to any of the major tourist destinations (ie Cayman, Bahamas, Jamaica, Cancun etc.). If possible you should go to Cuba - I've heard awesome things about it.

I would go to ANY of these places again if the price was right, just trying to give you some ideas.

I had tons of fun on Tortola in the BVI. Go to the Bomba shack and get plastered at a full moon party. Very trippy and fun...and good waves too.

Cayman's are very expensive. St. Croix is nice..but small.
San Juan..No Way!!
Jamaica ain't bad..but be ready to fend off the beggers
Paradise Island, Bahamas...very nice, but not cheap.

Your requirements sound perfect for a cruise in the Caribbean. Well except for that "single" thing, but you can always meet people on the ship. Carnival is good for that, but I wouldn't recommend their line for much else.
