in all reality i feel a shim is a shim..... there's different colors... but just make sure you get the correct shim and that it's NOT conductive

<< shim

is this one ok?
>>

<< Features: Adds stability and allows the cpu to disipate heat much better - copper is much better conductor than aluminum!! Also protects the cpu. Several cpus we sell unfortunately get returned cracked due to impropper installation this shim will make it almost impossible to crack while installing if used properly. A cooler cpu is a faster longer lasting cpu!! (This is a recommended item!) >>

been awhile since i had to worry about using a shim on my duron, but like what punkrawket said, you should get one that's non-conductive..

like this one Cool-Shim for Athlon XP

<< If you're worried about leveling a cooler on your new Athlon XP core, then consider a installing a shim for added safety. The only shims on the market that are non-electrically conductive. Every hole on our shims are precisely cut via laser. This ensures every piece is perfect. 100% made and cut in America.

- Meets the UL-64V0 standard.
- Cool green marble color
- Temp range: -50 - +1200 degrees Fahrenheit
- Tensile Strength: Rigid (Excellent)
- Excellent Electrical Insulator
- Won't hold the heat next to the core like copper can.
- Made from Phlogotite Mica

price between the copper one ($2) and the Cool-shim ($9) is huge, but im sure if you look around , you might be able to find it cheaper..

i got one for my duron and works as advertised. hope this is of any help. :)
