Looking for a new cellphone for the wife and myself and want to jump on anything over BF.

I am specifically looking at a Droid Incredible, Droid 2 or Droid X

We are month to month on our current contract with Verizon.

Do they sell these phones with a lower data package than what I have seen listed at the 30 dollars per month?

Thanks,
Lee

Amazon has them for like a penny for any VZ Droid with a new contract. Not sure if renewels count.

Amazon requires the big data package I think?

The Fascinate will be $1 at Best Buy on BF.

Okay, I blew through 280MB in my first 12 days with my Incredible (even using Wifi at home). Not sure why you would want the 150MB package with any of these phones.

you want to start out with a big data package, you can always lower it

I am always going to tell you to buy b&m. You don't want to have to deal with shipping your phone out if you have a warranty issue (the whole first year even if you have insurance).

I think the wife would want the physical keyboard so I am planning on looking for the Droid 2 for her and then it would just come down to if I want a Droid incredible or a Droid X...

not sure if I want a phone that large...feel like it is a mini tablet!

You get used to it within a day.

Mind if I ask what you were doing to go through that much? Just curious...

Real time stock quote updates through the Google Finance App, Gmail and Yahoo mail. Random searches here and there. I may have downloaded a few apps over 3G, but I've only installed about 6 since I got the phone.

May have watched a few flash videos and checked NFL scores.

No tethering or slingbox or any big "bandwidth" hogs.

I guess when the previous poster said to buy and B&M stores, he was including Verizon. My cousin had an issue with his phone with the 2.2 upgrade and he took it to the Verizon store and they immediately switched it out. No waiting.

If you go into cartoys they will go online and see price match Target. Target had the droid 2 for free and the droid x for 69.99 This was online and I didnt want to wait for the shipping only 2 or 3 days but you know how it is. Anyway the cartoys salesman went online and confirmed and then gave us the free activation and a 60 day price match so when the phones do get cheaper my wifes droid x will be free as well. I like my droid 2 but to be honest love my wifes droid X because of the big screen so I might go trade it in for that. I guess I have 30 days to exchange.. Anyway I hope this helps and we went to multiple stores and this was the best deal we could get. I live in Snohomish, Washington and this was with a new contract so 2 yr upgrades might be different.

Also dont get the incredible it has issues multiple salespeople told us. They said Motorola and Samsung were the top phones for verizon and I am sure other providers Iphone is great. And the droid 2 has a weird keyboard I had the motorola cliq before and loved the keyboard but on the droid2 they made the keyboard more flat and the keys arent as raised so I have found I hit the wrong keys a lot more maybe ill get used to it. Also when you sign up they make you get internet service for the smartphone. The lowest plan is 15 dollars but if the second line gets the 30 dollar plan then you dont have to pay the 10 dollar a month add a line charge. SO basiclly for $5 dollars more you get unlimited internet.

Just for another reference on the data...my month is up (yesterday actually) and I'm at 426MB. Basically using the Nav, browsing/email while at work on lunch and break, and the occasional app updates while at work as well. Nothing real heavy and I use wifi at home.

Pretty standard for me--if they offered a $20/1GB plan with an automatic rollover to the $30 plan when going over I would take it but 150MB is gone within days.

Buddy has the Droid X and I like the bigger format (though I miss the slide out keyboard) just for making it so I don't need to squint at everything ;) I have the original Droid and it's pretty sweet all in all.

Hmmm...There are 5 Incredibles in my family with zero issues. There were at one time 3 Moto's in my family with constant problems. Also, Moto and Samsung are slower to update. Don't take the "salespersons" experience as a generalization. Who knows, maybe they get a higher commission on on the other phones or have greater stock and have been asked to push sales on them. Never again will I buy a Motorola phone...Samsung...I have no beef against them yet.

I've actually heard the opposite that the "X" has some bugs..per Motorola

To each their own.

The Incredible has absolutely terrible battery life compared to the Droid X. I don't know about the Droid 2, but I imagine it also is better than the Incredible in that regard.

Turn off the crap Verizon backup software and you're good to go. My battery will last 2 days on a single charge. I'm in a habit of putting on the charger while I'm at home (my only phone), so battery life isn't an issue.

After taking it off the charger at 7:15AM and using it during the day, I'll get home about 5:30 and still have 65-70% of the charge. Not too shabby. That's constantly updating my stocks and checking email during the day in the background. That works for me...maybe not for everyone.

I guess it all depends on how you use it and all phones (even the "X") offer an extended battery.
