Has anybody heard any further news of release date of resident evil 4 on pc? Dec 22nd i heard. Theres even rumour of it beiing scrapped.

I am going to attempt to play it on a ps2 emulator in a weeks time. I heard you can get 30/50 fps on fast pc which makes it fully playable so i suspect if you have overclocked pc and a high end graphics card even more fps. Theres some vidoes of it running re4 on youtube. Let me know how you get on. Now that conroe is out its now a worthy consideration to get ps2 games going on pc. I'm aware somebody with a E6300 1.86GHz overclocked to 2.45GHz and ati1600pro ran final fantasy x over 60 fps and upto 190 fps in some parts of the game. not bad seen you can only run it at 60fps on tv and some racing games at 30fps.

This is the emulator to run it. Can run hundreds of titles. You need to own the ps2 and import your bios into the emulator. Theres even a plugin for Pixel Shader 3.0.

You don't need to download them since newer PS2 games are still widely available in stores. :)

If you're worried about that, you can probably just rip your PS2 games and mount them using something like Daemon Tools. When my PSX broke, that's how I played my PSX games.

no harm is done to your cds. dvd rom in pc is probably higher quality than the one in ps2. it read them fine.

that emulator been 4 years in the making but some major updating of it recently including speed improvements.

0.92

ADMA has been added to PCSX2, most (if not all) game videos will playback audio, many games now have their music and speech effects. Unlike some, we think games need sound.
Counter fixes stopping games hitting long pause syndrome, or crashing.
Enhanced MTGS / DC stability, great for those with Dual Core CPUs.
IPU improvements, more game videos will now run.
VIF fixes, allowing for many games to run or look better.
VUrec fixes, improving ingame graphics when under VU recompilation

Would it fix in-game stutters like in KillZone and/or slowdowns when too many objects are onscreen like when you blow alot of sh*t up in the Ratchet and Clank games?

it quite well possible. if you have dvd image on hard drive you not restricted to slow down from your dvd but it could be the ps2 processor causing the slow down. if you running it on a 3gig+ conroe and a high end gfx card maybe.

I just tried out my copy of Resident Evil 4 and its hardly playable. The game says its moving at around 40fps but it looks like its running in slow motion. The FMV skips a bit too. I followed the guide and enable dual core optimizations (which does help) and used the only cd/dvd reader in it (the others seems to be iso only).

I also tried out God of War and Sega Classics Collection and they are both totally unplayable with screwed up visuals and sounds. Ah well..

I'm using actual PS2 discs so I'm not sure if using ISO's helps out (maybe it skips because of my drive?) It is nice to see PS2 emulation on my pc but at the moment my console is staying put. Maybe in a year we'll see some nice improvements.

edit: my pc specs are as follows if you want to know..

AMD Opteron 165
Asus A8E-N
2 gig ram
ATI Radeon x1800xt-512mb
X-Fi Soundblaster Xtrememusic

@raystorm
ok good effort. it maybe optimized for fx processors. i read somewhere about that.
the dvd in pc is faster than ps2 so looks like it some other issue. it could be your x1800xt isnt enough. quite sure you need more processing power like 2.8+
did you try many settings and dx9 plugins?
it might also depend on which version of the bios you got.
to fix sound theres a sound plugin on the downloads page.
it looks like the project will have many improvements in the future as its been recently kickstarted again.
i may get time to try in 2 days on allendale.

Seems like its more my cpu than anything. Check out the first review link you put up! They bench it with the cpu I have and it shows a dramatic increase when the cpu is oc'd. My cpu is at stock clocks. I'm sure if I had an even faster cpu such as the fastest Core Duo I would get far better performance. ah well.

As for sound I do get sound it just has that robotic sound that the dev faq mentions. Just have to wait for improvements down the road with that.

It wouldn't shock me if it got scrapped. It's been delayed a couple 2-3 times and its been out for GC for a year and a half or longer and several months on the PS2. I just don't think it would sell well on PC since most all who wanted to play it has already played it(including myself). But really if they have it almost complete it would be dumb to scrap it. Most ppl would probably try to pirate it anyway.

Good game eitherway

well if it got scrapped thats sad. porting a game from console to pc has to be alot less work than writing a new game from scratch. dont they use a pc to design the game anyway? just maybe it april or may.

@ciproxr
bad luck - it looks like you got the cpu power but not the graphics. opposite to raystorm. my gfx is ahead of a 7900gt i will try at weekend.
such a funny quote in your sig. thanks!
