I'm using WinXP Pro, but it's happened on other systems before.

Is there a setting I can enable and disable the status bar in IE?

IE version: 6.0.2600.0000

Have you tried View - Status Bar and double click it (you get a check mark next to it)?

Actually, everytime you open a new windows using Ctrl-N or something, the status bar on the new windows is not there. Its really annoying to have to go to view and status bar everytime I open a new IE window.

i thought that internet explorer remembered your last browser view/configuration. open one browser, set everything like you want it, and close it. now open it again to see if those things that you changed were saved. this works for me.

If you want the status bar on every window, not just IE, open my computer, turn on the features you want (i.e., status bar), and then select tools/folder options/view tab/apply to all folders.

doesn't help. hit CTRL+N, the new window won't have the bar. if you right-click a link, and choose "open in new window", it stays. but ctrl+n doesn't keep it :(

That should work. Did you try the "apply to all folders" option with all IE windows closed? I think having an IE window open at the time you apply the setting may prevent the setting from functioning properly. Ctrl-N brings up a new instance of IE with a status bar on my systems.
