sorry for the boaltent title.

i just opened up gpu caps viewer and it says that my Asus 7850 doesnt have OpenCL support...... ehhhhh amd said that it supported opencl ?

how can i enable it ?

well since i upgraded from a GT220 to a 7850 without a new fresh windows install... im planning to FORMAT my HD and install new fresh copy of windows 7.. from what i've read in the forums... that should help i think.

I don't think u need to reformat at all.Just uninstall your current drivers and use driver sweeper to ensure that there is no remains of NV driver. Then install the latest amd driver.

Reformat anyways, getting a clean start with drivers is always fun.

oh yeah that is very true... i love the fresh smell of a new operating system... fast load up speeds... no clutter no mess and no bs

You don't need to format, just run driver sweeper.

i did that twice... unistalled all my old nvidia drivers before doing that... and restarted my pc like 2 times lol

does COD:MW3 use OpenCL ?? cause i can play BF3 on ultra 1080p with no probs but when i play MW3... my old GT220 performed WAY BETTER on that game than my 7850

I don't know of a single game that uses OpenCL.

As for MW3, that game uses a 13 year old game engine, a 7850 should run it with everything maxed and hardly break a sweat.

well apparantly mw3 is horrible and COMPLETLY UNPLAYABLE for me when running a 7850.... i have no idea what im doing wrong...

OpenCL is for communicating to a card for standard CPU driven computations. OpenGL and Direct X are for communicating to a card for graphics driven computations. OpenCL was working now, it would never help games, as there are already two highly successful systems adopted by ever game company out there to send instructions to your card.

You may need to install the OpenCL package separately too... For whatever reason, it doesn't seem to always get installed with the normal installer, but it is there in the extracted AMD Catalyst directory to be installed as an independent exe.

But I think there might just be something up with GPU-Z. My 4770 doesn't display OpenCL either, but I am running plenty of OpenCL apps against it.

I wouldn't worry about what gpu-z says. If the application that you're running that makes use of opencl doesn't work then I'd start worrying.

Last time I had an ATI/AMD card the opencl drivers/stuff where a separate installation I think from the regular driver so it might be something to look into if whatever you're trying to do with opencl isn't working.

The OpenCL pack is part of the main bundle now to spread OpenCL support.

I stand corrected, I thought they started doing that I just wasn't sure.

LOL. My Windows 7 install is almost a year old and still boots up in about 14 seconds 🙄 the "clutter and mess" are the users fault.

thats true.. but thats cause you own a HARD DISK FUDGING SSD.

My system with the SSD boots in like 40 seconds, it spends forever doing the diskchecks or whatever that black screen does

The situation has been solved people!

i just reinstalled windows, reinstalled new drivers and everything... BUT this time with MW3... i get perfect and nice graphics! about X30 performance and quality boost too!. i think somehow OpenCL might be related with MW3..

Nah, its the fact that Call of Duty is still using the same crappy graphics year in, year out. OpenCL has NOTHING to do with it.
