Hey all, Have Win XP pro installed, be working perfect for over 4 months now..

Latley though, i have installed some big games, 500-700 meg unistalled them.. and my space is not changed?

I have been using Norton SD 2002 since about 3 weeks ago, and i'm thinking thats when the problem started..

How could i run a surface scan? or somehing that could possibly bring that space back? Should i just try the windows XP Defragmenter?
thanks all

Bryan

I only have 18 gigs free from 37.. and i know that the games i have installed dont take up more than 10...😕

Try turning off "system restore" option. It keeps taking away hard drive space incase of a fatal system crash so your system can be restored. I turned it off, it should give you back about 10% of your drive space, depending on what you have it set at. Also try deleting the files in the temp directory. Some programs dont delete their own temorary files.

My temp was 112 megs once! 😕

That's a lot considering I don't install anything big and my HD is only 2gigs 😱

well i am giving system restore about 4 gigs... and since i made a restore point, if i shut it off.. can i still use that point to restore?

Turning off system restore will erase all restore points. A better way is create a restore point for a fully tweaked known good system and then use the Disk Cleanup function - right click on drive in my computer/Disk Cleanup/more options tab/System Restore and choose the "Delete all but the most recent restore points".
The HD space System Restore uses is well worth it when a bad driver install borks the system (it can happen at anytime) but if you regularly back up your system drive you can safely run with System Restore disabled.

check the norton protected recycle bin. (right click on the recycle bin and choose empty norton protected files.) norton likes to hog alot of space with deleted files.
