Where is my hard drive?

I have a ton of music downloaded from iTunes, and I'm running a riad 0 system configuration. For fear of losing a bunch of $1.00 @ songs I installed a WD 80gig IDE HD with the intent of copying all the iTunes stuff to the IDE drive. Everybody (thing) knows the hard drive is there with the exception of WinXP professional sp2. It knows the drive in system hardware devices but has not given it a drive letter or recognition that it is present. Bios is happy and seemingly so is winXP hardware and system data. In my computer there is no drive. What did I do wrong?

You have to create a partition and format it before it will show up. Its in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management. You should see the unformatted drive there.

Thanks earthman, it never ceases to amaze me how much there is to learn about software. Thanks a lot.
