I need to verify the serial key # of a Win XP Pro and I know that is inside of the registry, but I don't want to look all over, so I know someone out there knows the path.

Thanks

I don't think you can find it in the registry. You would need to use either xp key viewer or Aida32 which will tell you the serial #.

I'm pretty sure XP stores it the same place in the registry that Win9x and Win2K did. If so, it should be in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProductId

EDIT: Yep, just verified this on my brother's XP Pro machine.

Doesn't look like a key to me. For iinstance, my serial number key begins DTJ and the product ID registry key is all numbers

When you enter your Key into XP, it is hashed and turned into the number that appears under the registered to section of System Propertis. What key finders (especially Magicaljellybean's) do is reverse hash this number to the original values. Unlike older version of Windows, unless you did an unattended install of XP, the Key is not in plain text anywhere on the HDD or in the registry.
