I got the retail boxed Plextor 8/4/32 at Buy.com for $184.95 and have been happy with it since Windows decided to stop being a pain in the @$$ and recognize it. If you don't feel the need for burn-proof or for a ridiculously-fast re-write speed, you can save $70 by going with this one. Also look into the first-time customer deal with them, wish I'd known about it.

Yesterday I put my PlexWriter 8432 in my 5-yr old junker to test it out, not expecting much since my specs were below requirements. I got Adaptec EasyCD 4 up after some software issues, and actually burned a disc at 4x quite easily. What's more impressive, I test burned at 8x and even though the buffer eventually underran, you could tell the drive was doing practically everything to try to prevent it. It was hovering at 5, 1, 0% buffer for the longest time before it finally gave up. Definitely impressed me.
