ive been looking at directron lately. I wanna get a premodded case (dont have the time or tools to do mods well, especially the windows) but i cant decide... ive ruled out aluminum because of the fact i travel with my computer a lot.

Any suggestions?

this is the problem..there are NO good sites/stores for slim/matx cases.

directron has a couple but they blow...the aopen H340D is good but it's white...
their black casper one is ok but has a proprietary 150watt PSU...(NON P4)

there's one mATX case but it's rather wide since it accepts full-height PCI add-in cards....it's convenient but too large for people wanting slim-line cases for home theatre set ups.

i've yet to find the perfect case..i mean, i love my case, but it's just too big for my tastes now.

"god helps those that help themselves"....

If you cant find the one you want, grab a copy of the ATX spec and an old case for reference and start designing your own. It's not all that difficult. It may cost you a bit more to make (or have it made), but at least you get exactly what youre looking for.

Having your own sheet metal shop at work does have its benefits :)

Well, maybe you missed the two CasperII models with P4 power supplies: A102 and A102b
I've had my eye on these guys for a while - they seem to be the best trade in small case + upgradability. No low-profile needed! :D
200W is plenty for a P4 and a single CDRW+DVD combo drive (or just DVD if you can network the PC to another machine with CDRW).
1AGP + 3PCI + good imbedded stuff = as much machine as you could really need!

But you and I agree on one thing - there's just not nearly enough choice in either desktop cases, or microATX mini-cases.
Everyone's obsessed with big towers for one reason, one that marketing folks have not missed and admit loudly:
"People think towers look more powerful." Must be a phallic thing..... humans... sheesh! ;)

when i said this:

i was referring to exactly to the casper IIs that i KNEW u'd mention...:)

i dont' like those cases because i find them too large for my needs...i dont' want to use add-in cards, all integrated components, so i don't need the extra room they provide for full-size cards.

coolermaster makes some of the nicest cases, too bad i can't justify spending that much on a computer case...the desktop one is ncie, but again, looks too big..plus i want one that comes with feet for vertical standing.

the search continues...

Aluminum seems to dent and scratch way too easily. My luck, ill drop a lot of money in my case and the first thing that happens on the way home is a fatty big scratch donw the side

Well, there's always the bookPC's with no expansion slots, but you're stuck with proprietary boards - usually with i810 or SiS graphics. I'd take the SiS myself....
And the EspressoPC but its so expensive for what you get. Great for one thing: portability...
There was that Microstar PC at Directron that was a BookPC idea... a fair bit smaller than the CasperII's.
What can I say, I like the CasperII's.... :) Of course, I've only seen pictures. I could change my mind....

ahh.. makes sense.
on the other hand, if you're shipping it or carrying it around, it's nice because it's lighter...
