StargateAndAnthro was complaining that it stars white people. I don't see why it wouldn't.. not like everyone was black and brown in 10,000 BC. Where is it set? AFAIK, since it has mammoths it would either be Europe, Northern Asia, or North America.

There was a study recently (I'll see if I can find it) that showed that the ancestors of Europeans were most likely browner in skin tone and became lighter due to the lower exposure to sunlight in the northern hemisphere. Nearly everyone had brown eyes, too. None of this is relevant to 10,000 BC of course, since it's fiction.

I don't know that much about anthropology, but from the history of Sweden I do know people were there in 10,000 B.C. Maybe not Swedes, but if they inhabited such an area they probably weren't black anymore. Most likely Asian of some sort (the Sami in Sweden are sort of Asian).

By the way, where is this complaint? I can't find any sort of site with that name, or including that phrase.

What are they hunting? Are they hunting/gathering, or do they have cultivated stuff?
Do they have any goats/pigs/dogs/cattle etc?

On an old watch where you had to turn the crown to advance the date think how long it would take to get there. Even if you used a 30,000 rpm "dremel moto tool" and the watch mechanism could do it without exploding; I think this would take a long time. :Q

A sound stage somewhere would be my guess, or wherever the bible took place.

Well then in that case this movie takes place 6000 years before earth was even created, which is just silly.

I think the previews for that movie are some of the most confusing ones I've ever seen. Does the movie actually span 10,000 years or what? mammoths followed by epic wars and huge buildings and such...

Huh, what? I thought the bible took place on Earth. I've never read it though; I'm waiting for the unabridged version.

This is called the Out of Africa theory. There is considerable DNA evidence that traces everybody back to a single area in Africa. Basically they looked at weird changes in DNA that act as markers allowing you to trace back where the people originally came from.

One of the implications of this is that the original humans were black, which makes sense if you believe we evolved from apes. As the humans moved north, they started putting on more clothes, which means less of their skin was exposed to the sun. As a result of this, their skin got lighter so they could absorb more UV rays or whatever it is that we need from the sun.
