Where in the Vista?

How in Vista do you get to the Registry? The HELP is not helpful.
I can't find a REGEDIT.EXE. My wife has a problem where the Welcome screen comes up and then it goes black for 20-30 seconds before the desktop shows. She has an HP Pavilion and
Vista Home Premium. All Updates, Virus checker, Register cleaner, etc. I even checked for later drivers. I am trying to get into the Register to find EVENTLOG.evt to see if it will tell me anything useful. I was told it is in the Register.
I currently run Windows 2000 and plan on building a new system with Windows 7. I sure hope it allows one to get in and around the system files.
Thanks

This is a very confused post. The registry contains no event logs, to see those you need to get into Event Viewer, not regedit. And on top of that regedit is still available in Vista and Win7 if for some reason you do need to get into the registry.

Agree with all of the above - furthermore,:

"My wife has a problem where the Welcome screen comes up and then it goes black for 20-30 seconds before the desktop shows."

That is a normal happening in many systems.
