Where/how do you cash a check without a bank account?

Any check cashing place... Im sure you see their advertisements on TV all the time... Payroll advances.. etc.

They take a cut of the check though.

well, depends where you are 🙂

You can find the bank where the check is from (i.e. the account it is linked to), and cash it there. If you do this, they usually wont charge you a fee.

You can also look for places which do on the spot cash checking, some gas stations/convenience stores offer this. You will however be charged an arm and a leg (some stupidly high percentage)

Also, you can find a friend who has a bank account and sign the cbeck over to him and ask him to cash it for you.

How do you sign a check over to a person?

The person that the check is issued to has to sign it, write Pay to the Order of, and the person who you're signing it over to has to sign it..

I'd do it in the presence of the teller though. Most banks don't really like this practice, but it usually works.
