Where does WinXP store its CD Key?

Since my younger brother messed his system up so bad, I'm just going to format it. However, he lost the XP Key. He's got a legal XP Home disk, but he cannot find the key. Where does XP store its key, somewhere in the registry?

This doesn't apply to your situation, but I just had an instance of the motherboard died, CD is lost and key, what key?

The HD has XP Pro on it which I'm runing also, so I want to do a repair install. I can use my disk, but I needed the key.

I found my answer here.

I ended up slaving the drive into my system to make it easier to access the file I needed. Really worked slick.

Edit: This worked out nice. [sarcasm] All this for my stepson's girlfriend.
The tower was a filthy mess, inside and out. The motherboard was damaged (onboard VGA connector broken) the PS had a bad cap and the floppy drive was hosed. I replaced everything with components I had here. Mind you, it had a little ITX board w/integrated processor inside an enormous case so I had to supply not just a mobo, but a processor and ram too. I go through the gyrations to get the key (although I learned something) and go to Windows Update to get the updates it lost in the repair and it's either a pirated copy or duplicate copy or whatever.

This kind of crap really burns me!!!! :|
